Found a problem? Fix the everyday ones in a click.
Two care tools now sit next to START TEST, and the report tells you which parts are wearing out. The care tools never run during a test. They only start when you press their button, and they show you exactly what they will do first.
Tune-up NEW
Frees up space and speeds up start-up.
- Clears old temporary files and crash dumps
- Clears browser caches in Chrome, Edge, Brave and Firefox, never passwords, history, cookies or bookmarks
- Empties Recycle Bin items deleted more than 30 days ago
- Removes old Windows Update downloads
- Turns off games and chat apps at start-up, the same way Task Manager does, so you can switch them back on
- Re-trims SSDs, and lists big old downloads without deleting them
App updates NEW
Brings your everyday apps up to date safely.
- Finds apps with a newer version, using Microsoft's own winget tool
- Common apps such as Chrome, Zoom, Acrobat Reader, 7-Zip and VLC are ticked for you
- Accounting and business software such as Tally is held back, so it is only updated when you decide
- Leaves apps that update themselves, like Edge, Office and Teams, alone
- Updates one app at a time and asks before closing an app you have open
- Won't start on a notebook battery below 30%
Parts to replace NEW
Know what is wearing out before it fails.
- A health check for every drive: bad sectors, SSD life left, years powered on and temperature
- Notebook battery as a percentage of its original capacity, with charge cycles
- A short "Parts to replace" box under the verdict, one line per part, such as "Replace disk soon: 24 bad sectors" or "Battery 39% of original"
- Send it to Xpress and get a quote before you lose any data
- Temporary files6.2 GB
- Browser cache3.1 GB
- Recycle Bin (over 30 days)2.7 GB
- Old Windows Update files1.5 GB
- Start-up apps turned off3 apps
- SSD optimisedDone
Big old downloads are only listed, never deleted. Every Tune-up saves a short report in "All reports".
What Tune-up never does
- Clean the registry or install "driver boosters"
- Delete your documents, photos or downloads
- Turn off your antivirus, Windows Update or other services
- Restart your PC or defragment your drive
- Run during a test, or on a Windows server
Answers instead of guesswork
A clear verdict
No jargon to decode. Every part of your PC gets a green, amber or red result, and the whole check ends in one plain PASS, REVIEW or FAIL.
Safe by design
The test only reads. It doesn't delete, repair, tune or install anything, and your personal files are never opened. Tune-up and App updates only run when you press their buttons, and show you every step first.
Faster support
The check finishes with a single report file. Send it to Xpress and our technicians see exactly what we would see on the bench, often before you bring the PC in.
Workshop-grade testing
It runs the same test engine that signs off every Xpress custom PC and workstation, from a quick health check up to a 10-hour burn-in before a new build reaches you.
Quick and hands-off
Press Start, carry on with a coffee, and come back to your answer in about 15 minutes. No extra software, settings or sign-up needed.
Free, from people who fix PCs
No ads, no "registry cleaner" upsell, no subscription. TrueTest was built by the Xpress workshop to find real faults, not to sell you software.
Four steps, about 15 minutes
Download and open
Install TrueTest, or unzip the portable version. Open it and click Yes when Windows asks for permission, so it can read the system logs.
Press START TEST
Leave the profile on Field: customer PC. If Xpress gave you a ticket number, type it in the job box. Then press START TEST.
Watch it work
Each part of your PC has a tile whose gear spins while it is tested, then turns green, amber or red. Keep notebooks plugged in and close other programs.
Get your result
A large PASS, REVIEW or FAIL banner appears, with any parts to replace. Open the report, send it to Xpress, or press Tune-up now or App updates.
A report you can actually read
Every run saves a full report with your PC's details, each check, the limit it was measured against, and what we found. Print it, save it as a PDF, or send it to us. If a drive or battery is wearing out, a Parts to replace box under the verdict lists it in one line, ready for a quote.
- PASSEverything checked out. Your PC is healthy.
- REVIEWSomething deserves a closer look, such as a worn battery, a drive with bad sectors, low disk space or an old driver. The report says what and why.
- FAILA real fault was found, such as a failing drive or repeated blue screens. Back up your files and contact Xpress.
Get Xpress TrueTest 1.1.1
Free for Windows 10 and Windows 11, desktops and notebooks. Choose the installer or the portable version: they run the same tests and care tools. Already have 1.0.1? Install 1.1.1 over it and your old reports stay.
Installer
Installs TrueTest with Start menu and desktop shortcuts, so you can run a check any time. Remove it whenever you like from Settings > Apps.
Download installerPortable version
Nothing to install. Unzip it to any folder or a USB stick, open the Xpress TrueTest folder and double-click XpressTrueTest.exe. Handy for checking a PC you don't want to install anything on.
Download portable zipRequirements
- Windows 10 or Windows 11, desktop or notebook
- Administrator permission when the app opens
- Nothing else: .NET Framework 4.8 and PowerShell are already part of Windows
- The internet is only used for the network test and, when you press App updates, to download the updates
- App updates uses Microsoft's App Installer (winget), built into Windows 11 and recent Windows 10. If it is missing, TrueTest tells you how to get it
Seeing "Windows protected your PC"?
Windows SmartScreen shows this for new apps it hasn't seen often yet. Make sure you downloaded the file from this page, then click More info and Run anyway. TrueTest is made by Xpress Computers Limited and is safe to run.
Did Chrome or Edge stop the download?
Browsers warn about new Windows programs that few people have downloaded yet. TrueTest is new, so you may see "isn't commonly downloaded" or "Suspicious download blocked". To keep the file:
- Chrome: click the downloads icon at the top right, then Keep or Download suspicious file. You can also open
chrome://downloadsand choose Keep. If Chrome offers to scan the file first, let it scan. - Edge: open the downloads list, click … next to the file, choose Keep, then Show more and Keep anyway.
- If the installer is still blocked, try the portable zip instead, or contact us and we'll send you a copy.
Only keep a file you downloaded from this page. You can check it's genuine by comparing its SHA-256 with the value shown above (in PowerShell: Get-FileHash .\XpressTrueTest-Setup-1.1.1.exe).
Questions customers ask
Is Xpress TrueTest really free?
Yes. There's no trial, subscription, sign-up or advertising. It's the same tool we use in our workshop, offered free to our customers.
Will it change anything on my PC?
Not during the test. The health check only reads information from Windows and your hardware. It doesn't delete files, change settings, install drivers or "clean" anything. The only thing it saves is its own report, in C:\ProgramData\Xpress\TrueTest\Reports. Tune-up and App updates do make changes, but only when you press their buttons, and they show you what they will do before they start.
What does Tune-up delete?
Only things Windows and your browsers can rebuild: old temporary files, crash dumps, browser caches, old Windows Update downloads, and Recycle Bin items you deleted more than 30 days ago. It never touches your documents, photos, downloads, passwords, history, cookies or bookmarks. Before it starts you can untick any step, and any start-up app it turns off can be switched back on in Task Manager.
Will App updates update Tally or my accounting software?
Not unless you choose to. Accounting and business software such as Tally, Busy, Marg and QuickBooks is held back and left unticked, because an update can change how your data opens. Update it together with your accountant or with Xpress. Everyday apps such as Chrome, Zoom and Acrobat Reader are ticked for you, and you can untick any of them.
Does it send my information to Xpress or anyone else?
No. Nothing is uploaded. The report stays on your PC, and you decide whether to send it to us. During the network test, TrueTest only checks that it can reach your router, the internet and a well-known website. If you press App updates, the updates are downloaded from each app's publisher through Microsoft's winget.
How long does it take?
About 15 minutes. Most of that is a 5-minute processor load test, which checks that your PC keeps its speed under work and doesn't overheat. Your fans may get louder during this part, which is normal.
Which test profile should I choose?
Keep the first one, Field: customer PC. It's selected when the app opens. The other profiles (Intake, Repair and New build) are long workshop tests that use extra benchmarking tools on our bench, so they aren't meant for home use.
What should I do if I get REVIEW or FAIL?
Open the report to see which items need attention; each one says what was found. If the report lists Parts to replace, send it to us for a quote. For low disk space or a slow start-up, try Tune-up now. For a failing drive, back up your important files first.
Does it work on Windows 7, Windows 8, Mac or Linux?
No. TrueTest is made for Windows 10 and Windows 11 only. If your PC runs Windows 10, TrueTest will also tell you whether it can be upgraded to Windows 11.
My browser says the download is blocked or suspicious. Is it safe?
Yes, if you downloaded it from this page. Chrome and Edge warn about new programs that haven't been downloaded many times yet, and TrueTest is new. See how to keep the file in the download section.
I already have TrueTest 1.0.1. How do I update?
Download the 1.1.1 installer from this page and run it. It installs over the old version, keeps your reports, and the window title then shows 1.1.1. For the portable version, unzip 1.1.1 into a new folder and delete the old one.
How do I uninstall it?
Open Settings > Apps, find Xpress TrueTest and choose Uninstall. If you used the portable version, just delete the folder.
Need a hand with the result?
Our technicians build, repair and upgrade PCs and notebooks every day. Send us your TrueTest report and we'll tell you what it means and what to do next.
